This box set is excellent for tarot card newbies. The books cover things like finding the right deck of cards, the basics of the deck, doing a reading, deck protection, and advanced spreads. I'm absolutely impressed with the content Sarah Thompson delivered in these two books. It says beginners guide but this box set went into sufficient detail for me. It outlines in clear and simple detail all a person needs to know about Tarot. I would recommend to anyone to check out this box set if you're into tarot cards.

This book is interesting and well written. By reading this book I have understood about the secrets of Tarot cards. Inside of this book I have found some helpful beginners guides. My school friend suggested me about this book and luckily I got this book at the event of free promotion.
It is true that reading tarot cards is a fascinating endeavor. I had a huge interest about this Tarot cards and I had read some guidebook also. But I did not understand their information and guides. On the other hand, this book is amazing and the author has explained every part very clearly. By reading this book I have learned about how to how to read tarot cards and much more. By reading this book I am impressed enough. If you have any interest about Tarot cards, then this book set is perfect for you.

This book set, will teach you basic and advanced tarot reading. It is very helpful because it provided description for each tarot card so you can interpret the card that the other person drew. About the Author
Sean is an assistant professor of economics at Scripps College in Claremont, California. He is the author of the international best seller "Economics for Dummies" as well as the coauthor, along with Campbell McConnell and Stanley Brue, of the world's best-selling college economics textbook, "Economics: Principles, Problems, and Policies".
An avid martial artist, Sean is a former Aikido national champion and has coached five of his students to U.S. national aikido titles.
A recurring commentator on FOX Business, ABC News, and NPR, Sean holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in economics from U.C. Berkeley, where he completed his dissertation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate George Akerlof.
Sean's research focuses on the often puzzling and seemingly irrational behavior of stock market investors, but he's also investigated topics as wide-ranging as the factors that affect customer tipping behavior at restaurants and why you see a lot of unionized workers only in certain industries.

Stanley L. Brue did his undergraduate work at Augustana College (South Dakota) and received its Distinguished Achievement Award in 1991. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He is a professor at Pacific Lutheran University, where he has been honored as a recipient of the Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award. Professor Brue has also received the national Leavey Award for excellence in economic education. He has served as national president and chair of the Board of Trustees of Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honorary. He is coauthor of Economic Scenes, Fifth edition (Prentice-Hall), Contemporary Labor Economics, Seventh edition, Essentials of Economics, First edition (both The McGraw-Hill Companies), and The Evolution of Economic Thought, Seventh edition (South-Western).

Campbell R. McConnell earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa after receiving degrees from Cornell College and the University of Illinois. He taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. He is also coauthor of Contemporary Labor Economics, Seventh edition, and Essentials of Economics, First edition (both The McGraw-Hill Companies), and has edited readers for the principles and labor economics courses. He is a recipient of both the University of Nebraska Distinguished Teaching Award and the James A. Lake Academic Freedom Award, and is past-president of the Midwest Economics Association. Professor McConnell was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Cornell College in 1973 and received its Distinguished Achievement Award in 1994.

First of all be aware that the connect plus does not come with the book, We had to order it separately online. Also, the book came in "acceptable" condition, but had a large 4 inch cut/gash from the front cover through 1/4 of the book making it difficult to use

Rental arrived as described in very good condition. No access codes though, you will need to purchase that separately. On the McGrawhill website it's 100 but on Amazon it's 70 so I recommend getting it on Amazon if you want to save 20-30 bucks. The book itself is a bit wordy but well organized and it goes really well the access program. All of the answers to the access questions/assignments can be easily found in the book. Graphs and pictures could be better explained though. I got very confused on questions that involved graphs and pictures because it was not explained with captions but had arrows pointing in different directions.

This book is definitely helpful for someone who has already explored the possibility of investing in different types of properties. The chapters are well outlined and cover all aspects of the investing process, from the role of the realtor to dealing with fixer-uppers to dealing with taxes and tenants. The case-studies throughout the book also put a real-life spin on many of the more complicated concepts.

The whole process of investing is shown in a positive manner throughout this book, however, it didn't give off a "get rich quick" vibe -there are no magic secrets revealed here. If you're someone who has already done some research and are ready for a book to help you through the investment property, this is definitely a good resource as you can jump back and forth and touch up on subjects you might need some extra guidance on. I'd also recommend this book for someone who is interested in the possibility of investing but who has at least some knowledge of the real estate world. I wouldn't recommend this book who has no idea about real estate.

Review of E.E. Mazier's "The Complete Guide to Investing in Duplexes, Triplexes, Fourplexes and Mobile Homes"

E.E. Mazier starts "The Complete Guide to Investing in Duplexes, Triplexes, Fourplexes and Mobile Homes" by addressing the recent downturn in the housing market. Mazier's contention is that investments in multi-unit properties like mobile homes and duplexes are profitable in the long term regardless of economic conditions. This thesis may seem like a bold contention given the housing market's collapse since 2007 but Mazier backs up this bravado with great tips on real estate investments.

"The Complete Guide" is broken into three easy-to-read parts that cover the basics of real estate investing, the mechanics of financing and how to handle investments after purchase. Mazier covers well-worn territory including asset protection, property expenses and the need for a reliable real estate agent in the first section. The meat of "The Complete Guide" comes with Parts II and III as Mazier uses her experience in real estate to uncover overlooked areas of investment.

Mazier explores the upside of investing in fixer-uppers in Chapter Nine including the importance of finding distressed owners instead of damaged homes. Chapter 11 disabuses readers of negative perceptions about mobile homes by citing improvement in mobile home communities and unit construction. These sections would be completely useless to real estate investors without the final section dealing with managing tenants and properties. Mazier's "The Complete Guide" encourages investors to manage properties with tenants, state agencies and other parties in mind instead of their financial bottom line.

Real Estate Investing 101

For someone who's heard that real estate is a great investment, but is worried about the pit falls, this is a great book. It addresses each concern with factual information that's relevant, explained in simple terms, and walks the reader step-by-step through understanding the pros and cons of what they're embarking on.

The unique approach adds a quality and depth to the subject as well. Looking at real estate investing as a business instead of a hobby, or something to "do on the side," raises the bar. The book not only addresses how to evaluate properties, but it also takes a look at how to protect your personal assets through various incorporations. While each transaction is different, the education and information provided in this book gives the reader a valuable sense of comfort and understanding that opens the door for taking action. And it's the action that creates the results.

If there is a pitfall, it is that some of the information is geared more for an east coast audience than a west coast audience in terms of whether an attorney or an escrow officer will handle the transaction between the offer and the closing. However, this is minor and handled quite well with advice and perspective that is relevant for both audiences. This is one book I'll keep in my library, referring back to it and sharing it with friends who're venturing into real estate investing.

Nice coverage of a range of problem types

I still think Mike Lawrences Opening Leads is the authoritative book on the subject. But this covers some areas it doesnt.

For example, you are on lead against this auction
1H - p - 1NT - p

You have 4 spades so you think that declarer doesn't have 4, else they would respond 1 Spade and not 1 heart. The author asks - what if they are using Flannery, where 2D shows a 4=5 hand with 11-15 points. Responded knows opener doesnt have 4 spades and 11-15 so there is no reason for them to bid 1 Spade, and they can instead bid 1NT. Opener can later Reverse to show 4 spades, but that didnt happen.

The point of the hand was that opponents agreements can give you information and you can't always use the same set of leads / assumptions.

Chapters like - when to lead trump are especially valuable. The author says early on she was taught to be wary about leading trumps. So she sets out to give clear situations when its a good idea to do so.

Not only is the material clear and well presented, it provides a set of inferences for pard and declarer. If you study this book, and LHO makes an unusual lead, ask "why might they do that? Teh auction does not indicate a trump lead". Hmmm, I wonder if its because LHO knows the suits are not splitting well, or the honors are poorly placed, and wants to cut down on dummy ruffs.

I'm not sure I agree with the author on all her examples of when to lead unsupported aces. But its still an excellent book. For all levels.

Mike Lawrence's book Opening Leads is the reference on this topic, and Lawrence is a top flight writer, clear and cogent. Given that, I would recommend Sally Brock's Leading Questions in Bridge to almost anyone who asked for a recommendation. This pedagogically excellent books teaches by giving a hand to illustrate every point made. This is not a complete treatise, but it is a fantastic contribution to the literature of opening leads, and I put it at the head of the line--excerpt for those who are near expert and wish to improve to expert. For those people, get Mike Lawrence's book Opening Leads.

I love Liam's sweet and loving nature. And Tristan...wow...what an awesome friend!!! Hope in the next book Alex will make himself worthy of Liam's love because so far I have not been impressed with how he has treated Liam. He needs to prove himself to Liam and get a backbone. Come on, Alex, show you are worthy of Liam!!!

Why do you have to prove you are straight when accused of being gay?

No one questions the pretenders on the boy/girl dates, but just being with another boy (who is rumored to be gay) automatically is guilty as charged with no chance for parole. Perhaps the teen years are too guarded to allow experimentation on who you like and who you love. Too often the choices are forced and are wrong for the person accused. Trying to disprove anything about sex and love is an impossible task, with only losers, often scarred for life or dead. If the gay and homeless suicide rate was compared to the annual death rate for teen drivers, no one would be driving or drinking. But it is OK to bully and beat on suspected gays just because you hate homosexuality? Why is the gay kid jailed for being beaten up, only to be raped and beaten more in jail? This book and the previous one do a great job of illustrating the problems caused by hate, but struggle to show the glories of love. Just ok

Nothing new here. Typical high school coming out story. What bothers me about this story is the stilted conversations between the characters. The author seems unable to form natural conversations There's maybe a handful of times in the entire story where he uses a contraction. Almost all conversations are like this: "I am sorry. I have been stupid.", instead of the more natural sounding "I'm sorry. I've been stupid." Also,the ending seemed incomplete. Does Alex come out to his parents? Maybe there will be a book three to continue the story. If so, there should have been a "to be continued" at the end.

Cain's first novel, The Postman Always Rings Twice, is the noir novel that paved the way for all the noir fiction that followed. The famous film starring Lana Turner and John Garfield is notoriously dark, but the novel is even more full of despair and devoid of hope. It is a short book--little more than a novella--but its searing characterization and depiction of tawdry greed and lust is branded into every reader's memory.

Frank Chambers, a drifter, is dropped from the back of a truck at a rundown rural diner. When he spots Cora, the owner's wife, he instantly decides to stay. The sexy young woman, married to Nick, a violent and thuggish boor, is equally attracted to the younger man and sees him as her way out of her hopeless, boring life. They begin a clandestine affair and plot to kill Nick, beginning their own journey toward destruction.

Horace McCoy, David Goodis, Jim Thompson, and the other notable noir writers never achieved Cain's spare brilliance. Virtually all of his major works have been filmed, though several Hollywood studios refused to make the films, directors refused to be involved, and actors turned down roles because of their repugnance at the lack of morality inherent in all Cain's characters. Reading him may not be fit for a Sunday school class, but once you begin you will be unable to resist continuing, like picking at a painful scab or watching a tarantula inside a glass dome. --Otto Penzler

A Fine Example Vintage Hard Boiled "Noir" Style

This is an enjoyable, relatively short, novel. As is the case with most short novels, probably by necessity in a short novel, character development is kept to a minimum. The novel is also a time piece. The traffic and roads in the area around Los Angeles described here are very different from today. I have found this novel on at least one list of the supposed "100 greatest novels". That, of course, is completely a matter of taste. However to me, I am quite certain I have read 100 novels better than this.

By coincidence, I had just finished a Mickey Spillane novel, and I find the writing by James M. Cain to be of a much more developed and sophisticated nature. I think if one studies the biographies of these two authors, one can correlate the comparative writing styles to their backgrounds.

Another interesting comparison (At least to me!) can be made between a short novel like this and a longer novel such as The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow. In both novels, there is a side story wherein the protagonist embarks on a somewhat bizarre misadventure to Mexico with an unusual female. If one wishes, one may note the differences in length, detail and style of these two interludes.

There is some allusions to what I might refer to as "rough sex" that surprised me. I cannot recall seeing that in American popular novels composed prior to this work. I do not know if this novel is considered "ground breaking" on that front or not. It did catch me by surprise.

As with the case of many American novels of this time period, there is quite a bit of negative ethnic references. There are negative allusions to people of Greek heritage and some negative terminology about Italian Americans. As I stated above this is common in American novels of this period. I only mention it in case it matters to a potential reader unfamiliar with this work or this literary period.

NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW. Nice, quick read, but so-so character engagement.

I give this just three stars because even though, yes, I expected it to be "pulpy", it's so pulpy it's a tad shallow. No real character development and very much just "this is what happened to these people". Now, what happens is interesting and kept my attention, but I didn't at all care WHO it was happening to because Cain never dives deeply enough into who the characters are to make you care about them specifically (versus just the situation, more generally). In other words, you're involved in the characters' stories not for the characters and who they are, but for what they encounter. Also, for a fairly slim novel, it took me kind of a while (about a week) to read it. Whenever I put it down, I wasn't dying to pick it back up.

The book I have doesn't look like the one pictured, with the man and woman hugging on the cover. Mine shows a picture of the TITLE SCREEN from the 1946 movie. It's very cool. The design of the book, quality of the texture of the cover, and the inside formatting are fantastic. I really like that I own this book and have it on my shelf. If you enjoy classic films and hope to read and collect books published in the first half of the 20th century that were later made into classic films, you'll like owning this book.

Finally, NO SPOILERS, but the Lana Turner/John Garfield movie (1946) was actually better than the book, but I won't say how or why because I don't want to spoil anything.

YOU MADE THE BED, YOU CAN LIE IN IT!

This book is a riveting classic of duplicity, love found, lost, and then found again, even eighty years after its first publication date. It has moments of gut wrenching suspense interspersed with examples of heartless cruelty, and innocent, young, sweet love. The writing is taut, sufficiently descriptive and perhaps most surprisingly, the story is still relevant today.

The best laid plans of mice and men can be lain flat by the simplest of things and early in the book, a cat of all things spoils the party for our two duplicitous love birds.

i find it hard to believe that two people who can be so cruel and heartless can ever amount to anything and if fate or karma has a say in the way things turn out for any of us in this world, then young Cora and the tramp Frank Chambers don't gave much to look forward to. And they won't get any sympathy from me.

This book is a classic of the genre. Those with any interest in crime, suspense, noir, or even the odd love story should get something from reading this delightful work of literature. Full marks for this one.
